The Secret

Image

I loved photographing these cute cousins (Eloise and Brooke), and this particular picture brings to mind a poem we memorized in the early years of elementary school. If you remember it as well, I hope it brings a smile to your face.

We have a secret, just we three,
The robin, and I, and the sweet cherry-tree;
The bird told the tree, and the tree told me,
And nobody knows it but just us three.
But of course the robin knows it best,
Because she built the—I shan’t tell the rest;
And laid the four little—something in it—
I’m afraid I shall tell it every minute.
But if the tree and the robin don’t peep,
I’ll try my best the secret to keep;
Though I know when the little birds fly about
Then the whole secret will be out.
P.S. The sweetest thing about this photoshoot, was getting a message from Brooke’s mom that went like this: “Thanks again for the great session. When we got home Brooke said, ‘Lauri is my best friend.’ “
What a great “job” I have.

Breathless

Image

Wish I could take credit for this cute picture, but it is actually the property of H Merideth – onepurplefork @ Flickr. I think it goes nicely with the following little story.

“When I called home one day, my six year old son answered the phone. ‘Hello,’ he said, panting a little. I said, ‘Hi, Nick. Wow, you sound out of breath.’ “

“He replied, ‘No, I have more.’ “

Road Trip

Image

Little Jenna was tired of the long road trip with her family. Strapped into her car seat at the back of the van, she called up to Mom, “Mommy can I please go outside for a time out?”
Mommy smiled and replied, “No, only naughty girls go on time out, and you are being good.”
Jenna was quiet. She thought for awhile and then asked, “Mommy can you please come back here so I can hit you?”

Skye, you’re a Dear

IMG_2003

When my granddaughter, Skye, began talking, she enjoyed telling each person at the table what kind of animal they were. In her very artistic little brain she could see characteristics of different species. We always found this very cute and entertaining.
One day my son’s good friend, Paul, joined us for a meal. He was a big Russian hockey player, with beautiful blue eyes.
Skye began sharing her perceptions, “Cassy, you’re a kitty. Mommy, you’re a lamb. Daddy, you’re a bear. And Paul…” She paused as she gazed into the striking eyes of this handsome Russian hockey player. Her voice softened as she cooed, “Paul, you’re a flower.”
